The God Prism

Everyone who attempts to write a blog struggles with one significant question: Is this blog worth reading? Because let’s be honest…if it’s not worth reading, what’s the point of writing it in the first place? But here’s the problem. Every blog writer genuinely believes his or her blog is worth reading. I mean, would you really want to read something if even the writer thinks is not worth reading? Probably not. But here’s the other caveat. Only the reader can render a verdict on the worthiness of a blog.

No matter how worthwhile I think it is, it ultimately does not matter unless you think it’s worthwhile. But there is precious little I can do about that. You will either find this stuff worth reading or you won’t. My job is to write. Your job is to determine whether it is worth your time. So, I leave that to you. I want to make this stuff available with the hopes that the destination is worth the journey. I hope you find this helpful, insightful, thought-provoking, and informative. But, as I said, I leave that to you. So, with that being said, let me try to explain to you why I am doing this in the first place.

It's probably best to start at the beginning. The title. Why is this blog called The God Prism? I have always been fascinated with prisms. Of course you know that a prism takes white light and breaks it down into its foundational elements. In other words, it is only through a prism that we are able to see that white light is actually made up of seven distinct colors. Those colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. I’m sure you’ve seen this phenomenon. But I wonder if you’ve ever registered the awe-inspiring results of said phenomenon. White light is one of the most bland realities in existence. So bland, in fact, that we take light for granted. That is, until we do not have it.

But if you see white light reflected through a prism, you see an eruption of color that inspires astonishment. We see this every time we see a rainbow. A rainbow, in fact, is a giant representation of a prism. No matter how many times we see one, we are drawn to stare at it. While at the same time, not really giving much consideration at all to the regular display of light we come to expect every morning with the rising of the sun. We see the light, but give it no thought. Even though that light is made up of the very same colors that fill us with awe when we see it refracted through moisture in the sky. Interesting, isn’t it?

I see the same thing happening with Believers as we live in a world that is not our home. The Bible is the prism through which we can see the elements of God’s Word and how they interact and impact the world. We must view the world through the prism of God’s Word. That is the only way we can see the world and its actions, philosophies, politics, beliefs, and ways. And it is the only way we can avoid falling into and embracing those same ideals. That is the entire reason for this blog. I want you to see the world through the lens of God’s Word so that you will not (as Paul says in Colossians) be taken captive by the philosophies of the world. So, that’s what I’ll be doing. I will take the things of the world and shine a Biblical light on them so that we can see them as God wants us to see them…through His eyes by seeing them through His Word.
Is this a worthwhile endeavor? Well…that’s the question, isn’t it? I’ll leave the answer up to you.
